Florida Can Have Him

In my ninety-one years, I have never seen someone running to be the dictator of our country. I thought we were a democracy.

This dictator, Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida, promised to destroy leftism and “leave woke ideology in the dustbin of history.” That would include me, most of the folks in our church, and most of our friends. I wonder if he remembered that woke people did not storm the Capitol; shoot up Uvalde, killing nineteen children and two teachers; or support domestic, violent extremism.

“Der Führer” had compiled a list of over 175 books that have been removed from classrooms in Duval County, Florida. Over a million books are now on review. Mr. Hitler, this is the United States of America, not Russia.

He signed the “Don’t Say Gay” bill into effect, at least in kindergarten through the third grade. Suppose those children’s parents, siblings, or relatives are in the LGBTQIA+ community? Will that child or their teacher go to prison? I thought our country’s First Amendment was all about free speech. I wonder if this dictator has read our constitution?

When the folks at Disneyland in Florida heard this, they objected because it seemed to be an attack on the community who happened to be gay, lesbian, or transgender. But “Hitler” retaliated against Disney and took away rights that it has had for fifty years because that’s what dictators do when others don’t agree with them.

I wonder if his next move might be to emulate the leaders in Uganda who have just passed laws to imprison or execute gay people?

Then “der Führer” banned all Advanced Placement African American studies because he claimed they lacked “educational value,” referring to queer theory or the prison abolition movement. Obviously, he doesn’t want Floridians to understand the history of slavery and the abuse of the civil rights of Black people. He wants us to forget this miserable story of injustice because that’s what unwoke people do—gloss over embarrassing truths.

He endorsed the “Stop WOKE Act” because he was afraid that teachers might teach white kids that they are all evil racists and the Black students that they are all morally superior to their white counterparts. He also thinks it’s terrible for private employers to want to teach their employees about diversity, equity, and inclusion. God forbid that we advocate freedom and justice for all in a democracy.

He has no interest in any law that has to do with gun control. I guess he needs his armament for when he takes over our democracy.

Then he passes strict abortion laws, which have nothing to do with fetuses but are actually about controlling women.

From those who work with human rights, he receives a zero rating.

I could go on with all the other wonderful things this dictator supports, but I have trouble finding one redeeming trait about Florida’s governor, Ron DeSantis. He’s scary, even more so than the forty-fifth president, because almost everything he says and does is diametrically opposed to what a democracy is supposed to be.

Lucky are those who live in Florida enjoying der Führer’s vison of governing.

If he ever comes to California, I hope he’s arrested for treason and declared a threat to democracy.

Peace Love Joy Hope
